Hey XJers, unfortunately I have to sell my 1982 XJ650RJC Seca (one of the only 800 that were released in Canada). I've been way for work since Aug 2019 and the bike is just sitting in my parents' garage. It's still insured and plated, so if you're looking to register this bike in Ontario, as far as I know it won't need a safety.

I'm posting this on Kijiji and eBay as well, wrote a long post for that listing and don't have the time to write all the details again here, so apologies if a lot of the info on the post below is redundant for the more knowledgable XJers here.

I'm asking $1200 Canadian, OBO. The bike needs a new ignition push button switch and battery to be started. I'll leave the ads up for a week with the bike as is, and if no one takes it I'll repost after the ignition button and battery are replaced for a higher asking price.

    1982 Yamaha XJ650RJC Seca, 1 of 800

1982 Yamaha XJ650RJC Seca (YICS model) for sale, currently plated and insured but not running (more details on this below), 58,033 kilometres. $1200 or reasonable offer. The price reflects the state of the bike and that it is currently plated/insured and wouldn’t need a safety if you’re registering it in Ontario.

The bike is currently in Lakeshore, Ontario, near Windsor. There were only 800 of these bikes produced and they were exclusively for the Canadian market.

The guy who restored the bike replaced the 4-2 headers for a 4-1 header.

    Here’s the specs:

    Years produced: 1982
    Claimed power: 48hp @ 9,000rpm
    Top speed: 127mph
Engine type: 653cc double-overhead cam, air-cooled inline four
    Transmission: Five-speed
    Weight (wet): 502lb (228kg)
    MPG: 47.5 (period test)
Tank capacity: 19.5L/5.1 US gal (longest I’ve gone on 1 tank was just over 300km)

To the best of my memory, here all the great and not so great things about this bike, including what will be needed to make this a daily rider again.

    The good:
    • Body including tank is in good condition
    • Electrics were replaced when restored by previous owner, I never had any of the issues that typically come with this vintage of bike
    • Front break pads were replaced in 2019
    • Starter rebuilt in 2016 or 17 (can’t remember, did it myself)
    • Neck bearings replaced from original to cartridge style in 16 or 17 by Honda Harry in Chatham
    • Leather on seat is in good shape. The padding is fine.
    • Controls work fine (other than ignition push button needing to be replaced)
    • Bike was properly winterized before storage in Aug 2019.
    • This bike was always very reliable for me. During 2016-17 I rode this from Montreal to Toronto about once a week, and down to Lakeshore about 5 or 6 times.
    The not great:
    • Starter ignition switch needs to be replaced (easy peasy, can share the contact for the part. It’s about $25USD including shipping)
    • Tank needs to be flushed and most likely new fuel filter (also easy)
    • Needs a new battery
    • Hasn’t been started since August 2019
    • Valve cover gasket needs to be replaced, and it is definitely in need of a valve adjustment
    • Carbs need to be cleaned, rebuilt and synced, but this goes hand-in-and with the valve adjustment.
    • I dumped the bike once. It didn’t cause any damage other than a bruised ego and gravel scratches on the clutch cover. I also had to replace the left side indicator.

I really didn’t want to sell this bike - had plans of doing a complete restoration, mechanically and body, back in 2022 but work and life has had other plans for me. I love this bike and road it all the time, both city and highway. For the 1st two seasons I had it, I lived in Montreal but worked in Toronto so I rode it between the two cities almost every week, and also down to my parents’ place near Windsor and out to Barrie/Collingwood.

Ideally whoever buys this understands how rare this bike is, will give it the love it needs and restores it to its glory. Please don’t by this to chop it up into a “cafe racer”. This is not a good bike for that, there are plenty of GS’s and CB’s that are far better suited to this.

This is one of 800 of these bikes that were sold. Far fewer still exist.

Let me know if you’re interested, we can set up a call and I can provide any info that’s missing here, and we can arrange a viewing time.
