my 85 maxim x runs good but their is a couple of problems that are quite noticable--- one is, at low rpm with a bit of a load and letting out the clutch there is quite a chatter or nock in the crank case, another thing is when i'm crusing at about 5500 rpm in any gear and i crack the throttle it just boggs, 100 rpm before or after it's goes like a bat out of hell, the response is amazing. So at this point i'm seriousely considering an enginge rebuild and i was wondering if someone would know the availability of parts to do the rebuild or any tips or advice.

    thanks

Sounds to me like your issues are the clutch and carburetors. No reason to do a tear down for either one.

If the bike is new to you, have you changed the oil?

The bog sounds like carbs. Do you have stock intake and exhaust, or has it been modified?

I agree, the bog sounds like a carb problem. I'd start stupid simple with a carb sync with a set of sticks.

As for the knock in the case, where is it coming from? It sounds like it may have something to do with the clutch though. If the bike is running fine out of gear and there is no noise until you put the bike in gear, I'd try looking into the clutch first before tearing into the entire engine.

Thanks for the feed back guys, i'll definately have the carbs looked at. as for the other issue, I don't think it's the clutch. It's kinda hard to explain but say: you're on an incline and you let the clutch out to just to climb it a bit without giving it any throttle, as the rpms come down the engine rattles quite a bit. Now i know any bike would make some sort of chattering sound under these circumstances becauses it's almost at the stalling point, I just think that mine is a little too exessive------ sorry that's the best way I could describe it.

once again thanks for your help

    Stop doing that.

These engines produce darn near 0 torque at idle. You're lugging it. Give it some throttle and let the clutch slip a little.
