    1982 maxim 650
    Found on Craigslist
    Runs and idles
Tank is in real good condition inside
Changed oil and drained tank, added 1.5 gallons of gas with about 4 ounces of sea foam.
Bike basically will not run on petcock run position but runs very well on reserve.
question 1. How much gas is in reserve for this tank?
Question 2. How difficult is it to replace valve cover gasket?
I noticed oil buildup where cover sits and smoke when engine is hot. Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Paul

Question 1: probably below the level where you need to either run on RES or PRI. Probably not a problem

Question 2: the valve cover gasket on an 82 Maxim with a YICS head is not difficult, but it’s not as simple as buying a $10 paper gasket from some who-flung-poo web site either. Valve cover is held down by rubber donuts under the bolts. You probably need to replace the donuts and the gasket.

Aand, you need a degree of mechanical sympathy when you tighten down those doughnut bolts - I've probably seen a dozen or more instances on here of cackhanded spanner wielders breaking the cam saddles that the bolt screws into. Take care with this job.

True dat. If you break one of your cam caps you're gonna have a bad time.
