    Hello guys!
I'm new, i'm 19 and from Italy (sorry for my bad english).
I recently bought an XJ 550 engine to put on a go kart without any experience with wiring an engine!!
I would like to ask you: Does anyone of you can help me with a simple electrical diagram just for starting the engine? No lights, no keys, nothing. I saw that there was some people that did something super simple but it still had lights and keys... I need it just to start it. It should be simple, i know, but I really don't know also what are the cables that are coming out of the engine!
    please help me.
    Thank you very much!!!

Well, this is all you need to just make it run.......12V+ and ground to the ignitor and the pickup coils will plug into the ignitor unless the wiring is hacked up.

I'd want the charging circuit etc. to keep the battery charged. You'll need some heavy battery cables for the starter solenoid and another switch to trigger it.

You could replace the starter solenoid with a push button, but it would need to be rated for high amperage and accept the large battery cables from the battery and to the starter.

Here is the minimum you are looking for to start, run, and keep the battery charged. To be honest you will need some wiring experience to pull this off, it's doable just take your time. You need the ignitor module and rectifier from the bike.

Thank you so much. Due to my "noob" experience in wiring, could you please explain me with a diagram how to connect the push button without the starter solenoid and the other starter SW (if they are together).
    I really appreciate your help.
    Thank you so much.

I copied the pic from the service manual. I think they were trying to show heavy wires to the starter and solenoid, not sure cause the 20 amp "main feed" makes up the outline so it's confusing. Just use heavy cables from the battery to the starter switch or solenoid and to the starter. Also need a heavy ground from the battery to the engine block.

The 20 amp main feed to the on/off switch can be 12ga.

Thanks. Do you know where can I put the grounds on the block?
All the grounds on the same spot? Thanks.

Any bolt on the engine will suffice really. Factory would have been one of the case bolts towards the back of the motor.
