Can anyone tell me where the heck to buy parts for ‘94 SECA 2?! I’ve got a starter screeching at me and it’s hurting my soul If I pop it in gear and give it a tug backwards it clicks and wants to turn over again but starts screeching if it doesn’t start. At this point I’m looking to possibly buy a second engine for it while I crack the case open (not much experience beyond oil changes so that’ll be fun), and start replacing internals. Right now I’m looking at the starter clutch as I’ve already replaced the starter and got the same result.

I've read about a few people with non disengaging starter clutches that ruin the starter motor.
I haven't run across the reason in a post yet.
    Anyone?

To run in the freewheel direction, the rollers, pins and springs have to retract into the wider portion of the taper. The amount the retract is almost nothing since as soon as they lose traction on the shaft, they are sliding. I believe the issue of the clutch not releasing is due to old gummy oil, or possibly corrosion in a motor that has sat forever. Oil changes, Seafoam or just getting some heat in the motor can potentially cure this problem.

The 3 rollers aren't ever actually rolling during operation, maybe a couple degrees of movement at first engagement, and thus can get a flat spot that leads to the opposite condition of not engaging. On intermittent clutches, the rollers probably do roll off the flat sometimes, get to a fresh spot and then work fine for a while.

@Dan Gardner any updates on the Rottella T6 experiment? Curious if it helps or hurts the starter clutch.
