Just rattled out some new paint. Wal-mart had a special on spray rust paint. tell me what you think of it?
Personally I don't know if I like it yet, it might get sanded off by tomorrow depending on how I feel upon awakening. Also headlights are on now. Had a fun time making a bracket for them and burning my metal shaping thumb. The new piece attaches to this strange little piece on the front of the frame, it had bolt holes and nuts already in it, must be something for a seca, i don't remember it beign used for anything. Anyways let me know what you guys think. Save or Sand...

Love it!!! Got any more detailed pics on how you did the hardtail conversion? We've got one here in the shop we're planning on doing that with...

Personally I don't like the white sides on your tank. I'd make the tank black and have a graphic of some sort on it. The graphic would be very subtle, probably an outline or trace of something, someone or an animal…

Gotta agree with Sno on this one. White sides looks too late sixties harley for my liking.

But with those bars then that may be the look your after, in which case you've got it nailed.

I'm voting along with Sno too, I agree the white doesn't hold a candle to the black tank with some graphics. I do think your white panel would look great with another set-up, just not this arrangement. Looked to me like you have some damage at the base of your tank where it meets the seat. Do my eyes deceive me? Was that part of a mod?

I think it keeps perfectly in line with the rest of the bike! I stand by my original opinion!

I'm usually not a fan at all of ape-hangers, but it seems to actually work pretty well with the look of this bike. By the looks of it, you're still running stock rake, right? BTW, I like this bike enough that I now have all your pics saved on my hard drive. 8)

[edit] LOL, the more I look at it, the more I love it!!! Getting me rearing to go on my buddy's chopper project. Keep up the good work man!!! Now I need to go back to work rather than keep on staring at the same pics...

well, Joel, hartailing a rear end is really simple, you just chop out the old rear cage from right behind where the seat connects, then get some stainless pipe, cut it in two equal lengths, heat and pound one end of each one flat, drill a hole to correspond with the rear suspension mount(you want it to be detachable so tire/rear brake service can be done) then just weld the other side to the existing frame and you're done. feel free to brace where nessacary. As for the paint, yea it's not my best work here, and it just creates the illusion of a smaller tank more than anything. but it's staying on there to protect the tank till i think of something better. And yes rob, the tank is covered in assorted dents. The one at the base of the tank came from an idea i had to mount the battery there, when i was building the futurebike. All the electronics would be hidden under the fibreglass cover so a little clearance had to be made. THe easiest way to fix it would be to buy a new tank, but since the old tank works just fine. why would i do that?

Conventional thinking keeps me from making any mods of extreme. Your efforts are great to watch. I agree, if it works, why get rid of it? With your skills, who would care how it looks? Keep rolling, you've made yourself a jem, the forum is enjoying your efforts.

I like the paint. Now you need to find some white wall tires to throw on there. Haha kidding about the white walls, but I do like the scheme.

Actually, I think some whitewalls would look awesome with it!!! :D

Any reason you did stainless rather than mild steel? We just bought some 1" x .125" DOM tubing (mild steel) to do ours with. We're going back and forth b/t a few different ideas, but yours was the first I had seen that used the stock swingarm in that way. Probably the simplest way to do it! We had planned on eliminating the swingarm by hardtailing one side at a time to keep everything in line, then cutting out the original swingarm. Then we could run an exposed shaft (which looks absolutely wicked IMO), and possibly squeeze a bit larger rear tire on it. But, we had to buy $200 worth of steel to get it, so we have plenty of extra to play with!

Mild steel shoudl work just fine, the stainless just has better rust protection. It is not desirable for you're suspension to start rusting on you. I don't think you can get a larger rear tire on there wihtout some big time shaft mods, otherwise it's gonna start rubbing on the sides of the tire. and what do you need a bigger rear tire for? it's only going to suck your gas and slow you down. On a bike like this it's not worth it compared to how much work must be done. IF you're serious about big tires, convert to chain or belt drive. But go for it if you want the look, i guess. I have never seen an open drive shaft on a bike before, sounds interesting. Let me know how it turns out.
