My airbox cover is damaged, and missing a part. Could someone with a complete one put theirs on a flatbed scanner, with a ruler for me? With that info, I should be able to model up a replacement which I would happily share when done!
    [edit] XJ550!

Shoot. I don’t have an example of a 550 cover. I started a model for a 650 airbox cover, but haven’t completed it. I was going to model the 650 cover and then tweak it so that an upgraded fusebox would fit better. But that’s another matter.

If I can get my hands on a 550 cover I can work on it.

No worries! The top half of the cover, and the airbox itself is in one piece, so I could probably figure it out from that, but a scan of the cover would be a lot simpler if someone already had it off!

    Is this the correct piece?

@twchambers - I managed to get my greasy hands on a copy of a 4U8 airbox cover. What measurements do you need??

I can get the basic shape into FreeCAD and share that.

Here are my initial analog notes:

edit: top measurement is 204mm not 188mm

That's awesome, thanks Dan. Think I've got the outer shape sorted, but any chance you'd be able to scan that cover to help me out with the shape of the "seal" going round the lower part that I'm missing?

What sort of scan are you looking for? I don’t have a 3D scanner. Unfortunately.

Just on a regular flatbed document scanner would be great. I find it really handy to use as a background reference image when modelling parts.

As an example, the red here is what I was able to do in FreeCAD based off the measurements you gave, and the green is the trace of my broken cover done in inkscape. (Quite possibly my error in FreeCAD!)

OK, see attached scan. Hopefully it is close to what you need.

That's perfect, thanks! Here's my go at the STL for the airbox cover. I've done a test print of the mating surfaces, which fit really nicely, but not tried printing the whole thing yet, so it might need some more tweaks.

    That's a really nice piece of work @twchambers !!

Would you be willing to share the FreeCAD file? I'd like to be able to see how you modeled this - would probably help me with some stuff.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to do it in FreeCAD. I'm still very much a beginner with it, so would have been too much to try and handle this!
My process was to trace the scans in inkscape, then imported the SVG into Blender, and from there it was mostly a case of extruding and adding a few bevels.
Attached is the svg, the .blend and the resulting stl all in one package. Let me know if I can help with anything else!

That seems to work pretty well. I guess I'm going to have to spend some time learning Blender - seems like it might be the right tool for some of this stuff versus FreeCAD.

Things have been hectic here and haven't done much work on the bike, but I did manage to get this printed.
Fit isn't perfect but seems perfectly reasonable, and the PETG is a bit shiny compared to the original plastic but sure it could be dulled a bit, if it doesn't naturally.
Only thing yet to test is whether it holds the filter in place nicely.
