There are obviously quite a few differences between the Seca 550 RH, RJ, and RK and the Maxim 550's, but is the same engine used, i.e cams, compression, gearing, carbs, etc? If there are any engine differences, what are they?

between the maxim and seca, jetting is different, and gearing is different iirc.

Cams are different too. I think the gearing difference is in the two sprockets.

    -Cams
-Carbs-- pilot air jet and main jet needle
    -Mufflers
-Airbox (no suck tube on Max plus trim difference)
    -Frame
-Seat and tank and rear light section
    -Instrument cluster, handlebar trim piece
    -Wheels, probably because:
-Rear brake (larger on the Max)
-Front brake on the right on the Seca, left on the Max

But believe it or not they came with the same handlebar.

OK.....answers my question. The Maxim is a 'detuned' Seca motor and parts, while interchangeable, should be avoided.....
What about valve size, head port shape, and compression/piston dome profile?

Same same same. The Maxim cams don't have as high of a lift is all. Valves are the same, cylinder heads and pistons are the same PN, etc.

The Maxim was "detuned" (re-tuned?) for more low~mid range "grunt" while the Seca is set up to scream.

So it sounds like I could take a pair of Seca 550 camshafts, swap them into a Maxim 550 motor, do the required shim swaps/checks, and basically have a Seca 550 engine ready to swap into my Seca bike? (If its correct that the internal transmission gearing is the same, and the gearing differences are only in the sprockets....)
