That the rear tire is warmer than the front would be expected. The final drive is partially cooled by the rear wheel.

 

Plus, the traction/driving force is from the rear— the front tire is a passive roller. Yes, it’s has traction for steering but it’s only directional force, and resistance force when braking.

 

I'm breaking the theme of this thread by more than a bit.

Some (or most) of you may have noticed that I've not been very active for most of a year. I do check in to see how things are going, and I try to answer conversations as often as I can.
Last April my wife was diagnosed with cancer. The initial treatment was promising, but things have changed significantly. The tumor has grown substantially, and there is a serious complication as a result. She is scheduled for surgery on the 28th of this month, and will have a colostomy. My main focus now is helping to manage her pain, and make sure that she's eating enough. All of my hobbies are on hold for the moment. I have filled out the FMLA forms and will be off work intermittently for the next several months. One of my goals is to be more active here in order to keep me grounded and engaged with the community. My mental health is....not the best, but I think that keeping busy with something that is not my career will help.
The Virago is still sitting with carbs that need the floats set, but that can wait. The XJ is asleep for the winter.
I won't be cleaning up posts that are in the wrong area of the site (I slacked off that a while ago, and I do apologize for that).
I haven't much more to say now, but I will keep y'all updated as things progress, as well as give what advice that I can when I can. ]

A friend of mine got a colostomy a couple of years ago, and she's as irrepressible as ever, jetting off around the world at the drop of a hat, thanks to Ryanair.

Being a caretaker really takes a toll on you. Must stay positive in front of the wife even though it might be an act. If you have to let your guard down, try to make sure it is in private. Keep the person who is getting the treatment in a positive mental state is half the battle. Good luck to you and just know you are not the only one that has gone through this.

The forum is always here for you to vent, spill them feeling or just let it all hang out. The bikes can wait, do what has to be done to take care of your wife. I hope that she comes though the surgery very well and can continue on for many yrs.

Like all good plans, mine fell apart as soon as the fight started.

After weeks of multiple surgeries, setbacks, pain and yelling (mostly at me and the occasional nurse), things have finally turned the corner. My wife is starting to be able to live a full life again. She's doing well enough that I started my XJ last weekend. I didn't take her out of the garage, but it was nice to have the time to do something that's normal.
I haven't kept up with the forum like I had planned to, but I'm immensely grateful for everyone who keeps this community alive.

Vacuum wound treatment is absolutely amazing. The wound from having her post-op infection removed has healed by nearly 25% in just a week. We really are living in the future.

 

@k-moe, Glad to see you back, having a moment to mess with the bike, glad to hear the Mrs is improving. You have been missed. Be well.

 

@k-moe, that's great! Having had a kidney out last November and being sent home the next day (after meeting their goals for me), I can say modern medicine is amazing. I'm glad your wife is on the mend! Recovery can be a long and frustrating road if she's used to being active.

 

Glad that you are able to get some "you" time, even it is just small amounts. Keep a positive front and do what you have to for the family. Sending you positive vibes.
