Over the past few months I’ve been going through all my tools. I’ve sold some, and thrown out others, with an eye toward creating a QUALITY set of tools. I’ve just about finished buying my Knipex plier set (though I’m sure I’ll never be truly done), and now I’m on to my screwdriver set.

After trying most of the big brands, I’ve decided to go with Wera. I made a big purchase toward the creation of my Precision screwdriver set and I wanted to share - maybe it’ll help someone out.

I used Wiha’s $250 “Master Technicians Bench Top Set” as my template. Wera doesn’t sell a similar complete set but by buying several of their kits I was able to save money and customize it to suit my needs.

I preferred Wera over Wiha because I like the feel and uniformity of their Kraftform Micro drivers. Most of the Wera micro’s are 60mm where the Whia’s have about three different lengths in their set.

Here’s what I ended up buying:

    • Wera Kraftform Micro 05345260001 Includes: PH#1, PH#0, PH#00, PH#000
    • Wera Kraftform Micro 05345270001 6 Piece Slotted Screwdriver Set Blade. Includes: 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5 & 4.0mm
    • Wera Kraftform Micro 345274 Hex SAE Precision Screwdriver Set. Includes: HexPlus Screwdriver: 0.028" x 40mm, 0.035" x 40mm, 0.05" x 40mm, 1/16" x 60mm, 5/64" x 60mm, 3/32" x 60mm, 7/64" x 60mm, 1/8" x 60mm
    • Wera Kraftform Micro 345275 Ball End Hex Metric Precision Screwdriver Set. Includes: Ball End Hex Screwdriver: 1.3 x 60mm, 1.5 x 60mm, 2.0 x 60mm, 2.5 x 60mm, 3.0 x 60mm
    • Wera Kraftform Micro 345276 Torx HF Precision Screwdriver Set. Includes: Torx Screwdriver: T5 x 40mm, T6 x 40mm, T7 x 60mm, T8 x 60mm, T9 x 60mm, T10 x 60mm, T15 x 60mm
    • Wera Kraftform Micro 345278 Metric Precision Nut Driver Set. Includes: Nutdriver: 2.5 x 60mm, 3.0 x 60mm, 3.5 x 60mm, 4.0 x 60mm, 4.5 x 60mm, 5.0 x 60mm, 5.5 x 60mm, 6.0 x 60mm
    • WERA Kraftform Micro 05345279001 2069/8 SW 3/32" - SW 1/4" SCREWDRIVER SET. Includes: Nutdriver: 3/32" x 60mm, 7/64" x 60mm, 1/8" x 60mm, 9/64" x 60mm, 5/32" x 60mm, 3/16" x 60mm, 7/32" x 60mm, 1/4" x 60mm

I bought everything from “ChadsToolBox” as they don’t charge tax, have free shipping over $99, and a low price guarantee. I also had a coupon for 5% off which may work for others: WERACS5

My order ended up containing 47 high quality drivers and cost less than $170 shipped. Pretty good if you ask me

Next up are my full size drivers. I’m still in the process of selling off what I have. There’s just something satisfying about having a “set” of all one brand of tools.

If anyone else has used ChadsToolbox let me know how it worked out.

I have a JIS Vessel Megaladora set I purchased prior to buying my Wera drivers, BUT…

I’ve found that the Wera Kraftform with the lasertip in standard Phillips (ph1, ph2, ph3, etc.) works just as well
as the vessel. The Vessel megaladora drivers also have a lastertip like serration on the tips, so the two are very similar.

Overall I think I’m just looking to gain some uniformity in my tools.

For my power tools I previously had more a crazy amount of different battery systems at the same time: Dewalt 18v, 20v & the old 36v. Toro (20v?), Ridgid, milwaukee m12, m18. Rupes 12v & 18v batteries for my polishers (buffers). It was rediculous.
I’ve now eBay’ed all my tools chargers & batteries except for Milwaukee and Rupes. I still have four different battery systems, but that is manageable.

Then I looked at my sockets and ratchets. I settled on craftsman for the sockets (just because I had a voluminous set) and GEARWRENCH for the ratchets (due to project farms testing).

    Now on to my screwdrivers…
I had Wera (of course), but also: Klein, felo, vessel, Wiha, and various other low quality brands.
I’ve found myself reaching for the Wera’s above all other options (even over the JIS vessel when working on my yx600’s) so I’ve decided to complete the Kraftform set.

Is any of this necessary? No. Would the other drivers have worked just fine? Yes.

Just something I’ve decided to do. Having a nice tidy, organized set of tools makes me happy for some weird reason :)

I also searched to find a tool vendor that didn’t charge tax. My local tax rate is right around 9%, so exemption makes a measurable difference.

I had to put a fair amount of thought into which kits to buy to complete a set that worked best for me, so I decided to share.

In the EU there is a directive for all companies batteries to become interchangeable by 2026

I'm in the market for some screwdrivers, I'll check out some of those brands, not sure Wera and Vessel are that well known here

I’d gladly welcome a power tool battery standard. There are adapters sold online to allow different batteries to be used on different tools but I worry about compromising my expensive power tools.

Wiha is another quality brand. “Project Farm” on YouTube tested a bunch of name brand screwdrivers and Wiha came out on top (I think…)

I bought a set of Vessel screwdrivers about ten years ago after many recommendations on here. Best things ever.
