    Hello all,

I have been looking for a caliper rebuild seal kit for my 1982 XJ750 Maxim. Most of what I find are either very expensive ($40+ for one piston), or are for Seca models only. However, I was able to find a much cheaper (still made in Japan) seal kit for "XJ750 1982-1984" on a UK website. It can be found on Yambits as "XJ750 Brake Caliper Piston Seal Kit Front".

I understand that the US Seca models used thinner seals than the Maxim ones, and are not compatible. Does anyone know if the EU/UK models use the same calipers as the US Seca's?

    Any help is appreciated.

P.S. - There are four brake pistons total on these bikes (2 pistons per caliper, dual calipers), so I would need to buy four one-piston seal kits, right?

In the rest of the world (outside of North America), all "XJ750" models were the equivalent of the North American XJ750R Seca models, and used their unique braking system (remote master cylinder). There was no "XJ750 Maxim" models except in North America, and they use their own unique caliper, shared with the XJ650 Turbo models.

The only exception is the 1984 XJ750RL Seca model, available in Canada and Australia-region only, which was the XJ900 model with a 750cc engine. This model uses the XJ900 brake system (including calipers), and would have a rear disc brake (rather than drum brake) system.

You indication of "2 pistons per caliper" means it has the XJ900 brakes, and sounds like you have an XJ750RL model:

    1984 XJ750 MODELS:

    COUNTRY: CANADA

    MODEL NAME: XJ750RL
    STREET NAME: 1984 XJ750 Seca
    MODEL ID CODE: 44X
    FRAME ID: 44X
    SERIAL NUMBER STARTS AT: 000101
NOTE: XJ750 engine in an XJ900 frame. Only 601 made for the Canadian market. Engine actually displaces 749cc (1cc larger than standard XJ750 models, which were only 748cc's) and uses a hotter exhaust cam, larger (+1,00mm) intake valves, different crankcase, cylinder jugs, and pistons/rings, the XJ900 type clutch assembly and middle gears set, as well as the strengthened 2nd gear set as used in the XJ650 Turbo, XJ750-X, and XJ900 models. Uses XJ900 forks, but no anti-dive. Similar but not quite identical to the 1984 Australia-only XJ750RL (45T model). It has been noted that all the Red/Silver XJ750RL models (Canada) seem to have black motors while the Blue/White models (Australia) have silver motors.

bensalf - It's around $18 CAD, which is actually cheaper than than shipping from the states.

Franz - To order the kit from Chacal would cost over $100, which I'd prefer not to spend if there is another option.

chacal - If I'm interpreting this correctly, the XJ750 Euro used a different caliper (and seals) than the XJ750 Maxim. I'm 100% sure mine is a 1982 XJ750J Maxim, not only due to the styling and equipment, but also the VIN (15T). I have not yet disassembled the calipers, which is what led to the confusion on my end. I assume this means that I only need two sets of seals to rebuild my calipers.

    Thanks.

    Correct!

Yes, a 15T bike is a Canadian XJ70 Maxim model. And yes, the caliper seals are different than on the XJ750R/XJ750 Euro models.

Correct, the XJ750 Maxim calipers only have a single piston.
