    I was asked:
“When installing a battery sensor on a battery, does it get screwed down so far that touches the metal? But if so, wouldn’t that short the cell?”

I said “I’m thinking just goes into the fluid, but I’ll try to find out”

    thought from the brain collective?

If the original type of sensor is used it won't touch the lead plates. The entire thing is insulated to prevent that from happening, and it's engineered to be of a length that it can't touch the plates anyway. There are holes/slots (depending on manufacturer) that allow the acid to flow into the sensor and lift or drop the float as the acid level changes
