    Hey fellow XJ dudes,

I'm still here from time to time. Hope you all are well. Having time to work on the XJ is difficult these days but finally found some time to look at my front brake issue. Pads where rubbing and smoking.

I pulled the caliper and what do you know the whole exterior rubber was missing except for a ring around where it connects to the piston. figured I'd pull the piston out and give it a rebuild but it was proper stuck.

Thanks to some other threads here (from 10 years ago lol) I finally got it out using the grease gun method and a little heat from the blow torch. Now I'm planning on ordering the CALIPER SEALS KIT from Len but wanted to see what you guys thought to the piston. I thought it was going to be jacked but it looks to be in good shape to me?

I clean up a bunch of crap from the inside but going to give in good detail and maybe a run in the sonic bath tonight.

@Ribo, I would use it. The inside of the piston does not matter. The important surface is the outside. I like to chuck them up in a small lathe and polish with a scotch brite pad.
Nice to see you back, glad you have found the time to mess with your bike.

The puck matting side that touches fluid is the important side. If there is a lot of ruff surface by the "O" ring it will start to wear it out fast. I use a 6" polishing wheel on my bench grinder and some polish. Most of the time they come back very well and can be used again....most of the time. Good luck.

Cheers guys, yeah it's pretty smooth on the sides that matter. I'll give it a good polish.

Some 0000 steel wool can help buff out any rough spots on the piston exterior.. Worst case, send me your piston and I'll make you a new one out of 4130 on the lathe, for cost of material and a 6pack. ;)
