Wanted Carburetors wanted

Does anyone have a source for brand new carburetors for a 1982 Yamaha XJ650 Maxim (w/ YCIS)?

I've rebuilt mine several times, and they work, okay...ish. however the only rebuild parts I can find all seem to be new garbage, so its not making any changes.

It starts right up, and runs down the road just fine, however, I'm only getting about 15 mpg. And I suspect it's the new garbage needles and seats, so I'm dumping raw fuel through the engine.

I think brand new carbs would probably be the best solution.

 

Do you have gas in the oil? Tire pressure? Spark plugs will usually tell you if you are running rich. Air filter? Maybe your bike wants Pods. Fairing or no fairing? 2 passenger or 1? Kids syphoning gas for minibike, my dads lawnmower was always out of gas. I think todays gas evaporates alot more than it used to. 15 is far from 40mpg.

15mpg? I’ve never even heard of MPG’s that low on an XJ. Something really wrong. How, exactly, did you rebuild your carburetors???

 

Per the manual.

I suspect it's the cheap fleabay parts, specifically the needles and seats.

 

I NEVER get any carb rebuild kits from anyone other than Len. Sometimes people have asked about sending along a kit they picked up on eBay, etc…… I refuse to use those. I can’t guarantee them. Len’s I can. Period.

 

I still want brand new carburetors, if possible.

 

For a brand new set, you’re probably looking at nearly $1000.00
