I'm modernizing my 1982 Yamaha XJ750 Seca with a carplay display.

Last year I had added in heated grips onto my ignition (probably not a good idea?) I'm not entirely sure how to wire it properly this time including getting the heated grips rewired.

Should I get a new fuse box that adds more fuses? if so which one?

or can I add in some sort of relay and have it hooked up to auxiliary or something else.

The XJ750 has been upgraded with a digital speedometer, LED brake light, headlight, and turn signals. So less amps being pulled.

I'm looking for a simple enough way to wire this properly.

The calculation is what your battery has and what the charging system can provide.
If the tci doesn't have enough voltage then running properly wise you will have issues

Adding an extra fuse for the specific circuit is a good idea but still the above calculation is pretty fixed.

Work out the amps required and what the charging system provides and what the bike normally draws.

And, given the idle speed generation is nil on these bikes, factor in any town, stop start (traffic light) action, it could make a big difference.

I've put in LED lights so shouldn't it be pulling much less amps now?

I will be rewiring the grips so it's no longer on the ignition.

The bike has a new battery in it.

I think my bike charging system supplies 14v at an output of 18-20amps.

You need to post some pics of what you have going on with the car display. That could be interesting.

    Just for a laugh.
I imagine that the roadster type bikes with blaring sound systems must have much better charging systems or carry car batteries maybe haha.

I had a Yamaha rd250 as my first road bike. I was the consummate PO and in completeness to my barstadisation of it I added a tape deck with amplifier and speakers attached to the handlebars. I still remember the rather slow cadence of ... Chris Rea and down by the beach... As the battery ran out of steam lol
    Good times.

Screenshot_20250705-025647.png But seriously... This is from the service manual.
It says 19A at 5k rpm but the graph shows something different.

Either way. It all depends on what the heated grips need.

I'll post pictures once it's done.

It's a apple carplay display that's useful for keeping on maps instead of using my phone. Can also be used for controlling music.

The heated grips use 2amps at the highest setting.
