    Hi all

Not quite sure where this belongs so I'll post it here and on the Modifications section.

This may well have come up before (apologies if I'm repeating an existing post) but I have seen it mentioned that the tiny seals in the end of the four choke/starter plungers are unavailable and cannot be replaced, so complete new plungers need to be purchased.

Well, there's a guy (Robert Meggitt) here in the UK that does them! He turns them around in a day as well.

Robert uses E10 ethanol resistant Viton seals and needs your original plungers as it's not an exchange service - you get back your original plungers.

From what I understand if these are worn or gone hard then the bike can end up running too rich and sooting up the plugs, so it's probably a worth while thing to get done while your undertaking a carb stripdown.

Details are in the attached photo and I've uploaded a photo of his which shows a before and after.

Just had mine done and I have to say Robert's done a great job.

    This is his sales pitch:
"This is to replace the worn out seals on individual choke plungers with superior E10 ethanol fuel resistant VITON and is available for all classic and modern Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha and Honda machines etc with rubber tipped plunger heads.
"THE" most neglected component of every carb rebuild, always overlooked when chasing fuelling problems and almost never included in any carb rebuild kits.
Many classic and vintage choke plungers are now discontinued and no longer available new or pattern which leaves many machines unable to run as they should, if at all in severe cases.
I can now replace the worn out and previously irreparable choke seal on your original rubber/nitrile tipped starter plunger with a superior ethanol fuel resistant VITON to restore correct choke function to your machine.
This will eliminate constant over fuelling from that source which causes rich running, sooty plugs, low mpg, power loss and idling problems amongst other issues that are the classic symptoms of degraded plunger seals compounded by the use of ethanol fuels on the original non compatible rubber and nitrile seal material.
The seals are replaced using my own exclusive one of a kind custom built tooling with a unique installation technique that is unavailable elsewhere and new full size VITON seats are inserted and retained as original without disturbing the factory rolled securing edge.
Please note that these seals are custom produced and were never a replaceable/serviceable part - UNTIL NOW..
Once done the results will restore the chokes full function and seal..
    HAVE NO DOUBTS.
If your carbs are running the original plungers they ARE leaking and affecting fuel economy at the very least.
The latest recipient of new seats has reported improved starting, idling, crisper throttle response and an astounding 15 mpg increase just from this, an incredible improvement for such a simple repair that will pay for itself tenfold.
(Results will vary in relation to the severity of the initial plunger wear of course)
Whether you wisely use my worldwide service or not i strongly recommend that the plungers are replaced or repaired BEFORE installing aftermarket carb repair kits or parts needlessly as it is highly likely that it's the leaking plungers causing the issues and not worn carb internals as many misinformed restorers are lead to believe.
Why compromise your expensive carb rebuild and your resto's fuelling and performance by not replacing the old leaking seals ?.This is not an exchange service.
You will need to send me your own bare plungers ( with springs etc removed ) to re-seat which also keeps your resto as original as possible and you will receive back your own original plungers with new ethanol resistant VITON seats installed.
QUICK TURNAROUND - I USUALLY GET THEM DONE AND BACK IN THE POST THE DAY AFTER I RECEIVE THEM".

Hi. Sorry to be a bit slow to reply. This is his email: zed.1015@yahoo.co.uk and his address for sending the plungers to:
    ROB MEGGITT.
    69, EASTOFT ROAD.
    LUDDINGTON
    .
    SCUNTHORPE,
    NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE.

The plungers were £12.50 each plus return post (so £57.20 total). Not particularly cheap I know, but worthwhile I think for peace of mind, and it’s a pretty unique service. Plus I guess it’s not like they’re going to need doing again for another 30 or so years! I’m happy enough that I’m going to get him to do the plungers on my next set of carbs as well.

    Cheers
    Shaun
