So I finished my xj1200 big bore piston build and was able to run a couple weeks to work out the bugs, which are many. It had a hard start issue, I think because of a fuel delivery issue, but once it ran it was great. Just hard start cold. And now, the starter was kicking out when trying to start, and now ... nothing.....there's power, but it doesn't seem to be getting to the starter relay to activate it. Played with the kill switch, cleaned it, checked the kickstand switch, the clutch switch, and relays under tank seem to be working, the one on the left side for sure. Can hear it click with the ignition key on. The one on the right I'm not sure if it's working o not. Can't find exactly what it does so not sure.
Would like to not be done riding already so any help at all is appreciated.
Sorry for the long post, I've done a lot today...

To clarify, it's an xj1100 with no start issue. The big bore piston build is what makes it a 1200cc.

you can check the battery , cables, and starter motor by "shorting " across the two large terminals on the starter solenoid, with a large screwdriver, MAKE SURE THE BIKE IS NOT IN GEAR,
if the motor cranks, those components are ok, and the fault will lie either in the solenoid, or the starter circuit

I have indeed eliminated that. It cranks with the short.

Do you not have a test meter? Multimeters are cheap as chips these days.

Yes,I do. Voltage seems a bit low at the fuse panel. I'm in the process of purchasing a new panel with modern fuses to replace it. Might help but I don't believe that's the issue.
