what do the letters mean?

    I've noticed in some posts that bike names are followed by letters, ie:maxim xj650h. What are these indicators of and how do I know if mine has a letter I'm so far unaware of?
    P.S. sorry if this is the "newbiest" of questions but ya can't learn if ya don't ask I figure

    The letters G, H, J, K refer to the year. G = 1980, H = 1981, J = 1982, k = 1983. When they are by themselves it refers to the Maxim. The R in front of the year letters refers to the Seca version

    W8OVR if yours is an 81 Maxim then it is an XJ650H.
