Finally got the bike road legal and just been out to see what its like. Thought i`d just do some mileage close to home as its very much an unknown quantity at the moment.
Starts no problem and runs fine but it just cuts dead after about half a mile, all electrics are there bike will turn over just wont start. Wait 3-5 mins and it will restart and then the cycle repeats.

Anybody got any ideas, bike still has original fusebox which looks to be in very good condition and when it cuts out its still got all electrical functions.
One thing it did once only when trying to restart it was back fire through the exhaust, never happened before and not happened since.

    thanks Dave C

I'm guessing its due to the heat building up around/inside the Coil/TCI housings. you can check the Coils by feeling them just after the bike cuts out, .. Checking for a overheating component inside the TCI gets a little tricky though.. Metal housings used on the Suzu's and many other unlike the Plastics on Yammy Xj TCI's helps pin-pointing the cause in much less time..

Stock Fuse boxes are a Big "No" on our bikes, I'm sure many will agree in the upcoming posts..

Let us know how it all works out.
    :)

I agree with Maan. Stock fuse boxes might look "ok", but the metal clips in them become brittle and corroded. Replace it first thing. Until then, everything else you try is a stab in the dark.

Does the bike cut out if it's just sitting there idling for 3-5 minutes?

Next time it happens, open up a carb drain and see if you have fuel...

If not, could be your petcock not operating, Put in on PRI see if that fixes the problem.

If you have an inline filter it may be need replacement.

I dont think a ½ mile is long enough to put the tank into a vacumm but you might check the vent on the cap.

    My bets on the Petcock.

turn the petcock to prime and leave the gas cap open, could be gas cap vent
1/2 mile is about how far i make it if i forget to put the fuel line on :)
take off the cover over the tci for better cooling, corrosion or paint on the tci
    will cause heat build up

vacuum pipe was replaced with new vacuum line so that should be ok.
first thing i tried was petcock on prime, made no difference.
also opened fuel cap, no difference.
no inline filter, petcock filter is clean.
new fuse box is top of the list for replacement.
was unable to try float bowl as i had no tools with me, will next time.

Removed TCI from bike and gave all the connectors a good clean and have since had the bike sat running for 10 mins and then took it for a spin round the block and it never cut out, stopped it when i got back and restarted straight away. Tommorrow i will give it another run and see how it does.

Thanks for suggestions, i will update this as it happens.

    Update

New TCI arrived yesterday fitted it, got it out for a run today and it looks like its sorted now. Seem to struggle abit going through 4k - 6k rpm but think i make just need to fine tune it a little.
