Been looking for another project in my area. I have my eyes on both a XJ650 Turbo and another Seca. Drive is longer that I like to go but to keep me busy over the winter months have to have something.

I got a deal from the friend of mine in town for this Honda CX650. She is old, has been picked over and even had the starter removed. I have a stater on order and made sure the engine was free. Moved the engine with the rear tire in top gear plugs out. I will get some pics shortly.

The first interesting thing from the CX500 to the CX650 is the cooling fan. I guess Honda learned not to put a direct connection cooling fan like the CX500 (fan is on the engine crank) and added a stand a lone electric fan. Looking forward to working on the carbs, tank and getting the bike running. The last owner might have more parts for the bike. If so, I will take it back to OEM. If not, will have to see what the bikes looks like stripped down.

Is this the Euro style or the Custom?

She is ugly I know...have to see what comes of her. Carbs are done. Waiting on the starter. No reason to go any further until I know she is a runner.

I flew to Calgary probably around 1990 to join my brother on a trip we took down Montana, Idaho, Nevada, California then up the PCH.
He borrowed a CX500 Custom for me to ride.
It had a Windjammer fairing. The 1st time I rode it up and down his street I thought there was something wrong, no one would ride something this slow, ha.
I'll never forget riding across Nevada - 160 kph at redline, seemed like hours.

They were quite popular over here even though they were slow.

I had a CX500 Standard from 1978, my 3rd bike ever. We rode all over New England 2 up on it. Not fast but well enough for us then. I always thought the best CX would be 650 engine in the old Standard configuration.

I would expect the 650 to have adequate power compared to the 500.

Removing the fan power from the engine and adding the 100CC might help it out. I have a few people that need a good starter bike, thought this would do. If, and that is a big if, the bike runs well once I get the starter in it. Did a little work on it yesterday, just little stuff.

I know they get great mpg, being a Honda, if it does spring to life they are reliable as they come.

I know she is ugly as heck. But if she can provide a new rider with a yr of good learning it will be worth it.

Starter came in the mail. Starter and carbs back on the bike. A little starter issue power troubleshooting and the bike starter right up, with some choke. The old flying "V" runs very well for a old bike. Now to all the other stuff that needs to be done. Lights, ignition switch and just a good cleaning of all the dirt and grime from all the yrs.

My MZ was ugly but it got me to work, and I learned a little too.

Turn lights on these older bikes are always fun. Has a three and two wire relay, that can't be right. Have to break open the book and see what the deal is. We just had mother nature pay us a visit, so once the sun comes up have to move a bit of snow before the projects start.
