    Have you tried taking it out and cleaning it? They are built well and if not eaten away from rust or other, they will come back to life with a good cleaning. Taking the cover off the resister area is needed to clean it right. If you have yours out, send some pics and let us see what it looks like.

    Timbox, I haven’t taken it out yet but the wires are dry rotted. Both plugs broke off. I’m going to try and get into the wiring harness and splice a couple new wire in. Then I’ll pull the sending unit out and try to clean it. Thanks, John

    Using a multi meter you should be able to see if the sending unit still work. As for those wires, happens a lot with our older bikes. Still looking for some pics of your troubleshooting and your progress.

    Here are some pics. The unit is covered in a tank sealing material. This is not good I really don’t want to spend 400$ on a new one.

    Did you test it with a multimeter? You should be able to get that stuff off the float. I don't think it is tank sealer looks more like adhesive, and there is none on the metal parts unless you have cleaned it off.

    Here's one on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/205797080959

    It's in Belgium, which means you'll have to pay import fees, but that won't be that much, considering the price (probably around $ 30- 40).

    But one thing you should be careful off when buying used sending units, is you should contact the seller and ask them to verify that it is working properly (using an ohmeter). The specs for the 900 sending unit are:

    Full = 2 - 12 ohms
    Half full = 40 ohms
    Empty = 87-102 ohms

    They would just need to move the arm from fully from one "stop" to the other end, and verify the low/high ohms. The "half-full" reading is kind of meaningless and not that important. There should not be any "dead spots" on the readings anywhere along the path.

    Even if the empty and fill readings are off by a little bit (maybe 10% or so?) that wouldn't be a big issue (to me), as the senders and gauges aren't all that accurate to begin with, they're more of a "better-than-nothing" type indicator of fuel levels.

    Thank you for all your help! I actually found a brand new one in the box for 220$ us. Such a relief because I don’t like have gauges that don’t work. The only issue I have now is the 2 wires coming out of the harness are dry rotted. Time to slice into the harness and add some wire.

    I think it could be saved, looks clean compared to some I have seen. Not too sure what is on the float, could be gas varnish but looks clear like glue or epoxy. Glad that you found a replacement, the wire splicing should be an easy job for you.

    Now is a good time to start to get some tools on hand for other things that might happen to your bike. Always nice to start a tool hord as you will be needing a multi meter and other hand tools down the road.
