Hey all! Im new here and happy to be here, the yamaha is a strange bike to a harley guy like me but i love all my other yamaha items so here i am. Question, where can i get a new ignition coil for less than 160$ for a yamaha xj700 maxim x, everything else on the bike seems to work and this seems to be my last component before it runs but i cant find the part anywhere new and the ones i have found are super duper expensive, can i use a different ignition coil maybe? Thanks yall!

Welcome to the forum. How do you know your coil has failed?

Excellent answer! Start a conversation with @hogfiddles. He should have the coil you need.

Welcome to the forum, once you are able to post pics would love to see the two part coil. I am sure someone on here could find a good coil for you as well. Hope your project comes together in fine shape. Welcome to the forum.

sounds good, im guessing theres no good way to hack up an ignition coil from another bike or yamaha right? If theres any cheaper way to find an ignition coil it would be appreciated since im a broke college student, but if there isnt ill just suck it up.

Give it some time, someone will chime in to help. One time it took about a week before someone had the info i needed.

I am pretty sure Hogfiddles has what you need but since he retired he has been busier than a 1 armed paper hanger with jock itch! He has just enough free time to take on many more new projects!

750 coils will not fit the Maxim X.

Honda MP-08 coils, as fitted to nearly every multi-cylinder Honda from the 70s onwards, fit the XJ and give you the huge bonus of having easily removeable / replaceable high-tension leads.
Dirt cheap, too. Can be picked up off ebay for 25 buck for a triple pack off a Gold Wing, for example.
I've been using a set I got off a wrecked CBR1000 thirty years ago, and they're still going strong.
I was so impressed by them I picked up a couple more sets just in case I needed them.
    An example...
