    I think that's where Yamaha improved things when the FJ came out. The alternator is driven off a cog, AFAIK, though still situated behind the cylinders. I've rebuilt 4 and not come across any other chains other than the cam chain and primary chain.

    I stand by my reasoning, an engineer would never use cog..

    Cogs are individual teeth on a gear or separate, often wooden, pegs inserted into a wheel, whereas gears (or gearwheels) are the entire toothed wheels that mesh together to transfer torque. Cogs are often smaller,, while gears are broader,, more general components. In bicycling, individual rear sprockets are called cogs.

    Was a real weak point, they updated the guide to use 2 mounting points not 3, but its almost like they knew it would happen as they provided an inspection hole just big enough to fish out the broken part.

    Cost me $200o in rebuild parts, £600 in shipping and then rebuild costs....only to have mechanic take con rods off, not refresh teh stretch bolts and blew a con rod and now going through second rebuild :(

    That's an expensive build. Did the so-called mechanic accept responsibility for his balls-up?
