Wow. Looks pretty sharp for $400. I've never seen one with an all-black paint like that. If I were closer, I'd have a real tough time not grabbing it. I wonder how "not running" it is? Even if the engine is toast, I have a spare...

I agree @co.dirtbiker. Fortunately for both of us it is far enough away to mitigate the urge for it. It is pretty though. The ad doesn't mention title status....hmmmm.

Messaged the seller. Bike has title, seller won't answer any more questions. I think he might be frustrated with it and is trying to get it out of his sight.

He must have tried to rebuild the master cylinder and anti-dive units!!! hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Nice full bike, looks clean, needs a new home. XJ750 for $1k

Another not so nice, XJ750, for "trade" I asked seller to update ad with what they want to trade for. No Title will need bill of sale and bonded title. Or a parts bike if you can get them down low enough.

A pair of 650 Maxims projects in Norfolk,Va. Interesting and tempting but I think I have enough projects for the moment, and quite awhile into the future.

Boy am I glad that bike is so far away! I too, have several XJ's, (not nearly as many as @hogfiddles) but I would still jump on that deal. I like the sport fairing. I have had a 750 with the big fairing and while it was cool looking and really swoopy it didn't work as well as it looked like it should.

Interesting that the seller never shows us a full picture of the fairing. I wonder how much of it is there...

Sigh. That bike is probably just about exactly what I'd actually be looking for if I had just been bitten by the XJ bug. A Seca instead of a Maxim, 750 instead of 650, red instead of black, and an awful lot cleaner and prettier than mine... and not even that far away (I live about an hour outside Chicago, Google says it's a 314 mile drive, and it would provide an excuse to stop by the Minocqua Brewery along the way). But... I really don't have room in my garage for another bike...

Don't be fooled--this is immediately after I spent two hours cleaning and restoring order to the garage; it is usually nowhere near this tidy.

And I probably don't have room in my life for another project...

Dang wish it was closer. Doesn't look half bad.

I see a little room in the middle. :D

upload_2026-11-2_21-58-52.jpeg @ScottFree, I agree, there is a bike sized space right there in the middle. This is what it looks like when all the space is filled. This is my 10 x 16 shop in North Carolina at my Most Awesome Wife's house. Yes, when I want to do anything, somebody has to go outside.

Yeah, I've had four bikes (one with a sidecar) in my 12 x 20 foot space. Even crammed two motorcycles and an Australian convertible in there a couple of winters... before I built additional shelving and a workbench in the back. Been there, done that, don't need to do it again...

I also said I probably don't have room in my life for another project. I look at the phrase "been sitting for years (indoors)" and realize it means the bike needs a lot more than just fuel system cleaning (that is, taking the carbs to church) and a battery--it's gonna need tires, seat repairs, probably brake hoses and caliper/MC rebuilding, maybe clutch plates... as he says, a "nice winter project," which is exactly what I don't need at this point. I did all those things on my 1980 Maxim, which is just about done being a "project" and ready to be an "everyday rider." I am really looking forward to doing less wrenching and more riding.

Now, if somebody came along with a 750 Seca that's been ridden regularly and maintained and needs nothing beyond routine maintenance... I might be very tempted.
