I went to test drive another XJ. A 1981 Maxim 650. Funny thing happened before I got there. The rear brake locked up. At least that is what I was told. I want to know if it could be something serious or just a shiered brake shoe?
The wheel will move when you put it in first and give it some gas. It acts like you are standing on the rear brake. But could it be the derive shaft ? Or the Trans.? Bike runs and looks great. This is my only worry about it.

    Thanks

Mine used to do that, a little grease on the cam fixed it for a while. When I installed new shoes, the problem went away completely. Watch the rear brake actuator lever when this happens, because moving it forward manual should free things up.

You may have had a brake spring break. Pull the rear wheel and check the brakes. The springs are cheap and have been redesigned. The new ones are safer.

My bike did that at the beginning of last year.

Both brake pads came loose from the shoe and were getting pinched. (the glue left go)

I had to replace the rear brake shoes.
