hi everyone , great site! I aquired a 1981 aj550 maxim last june with only 3100 miles on her, did some carb cleaning and rode the heck out of her all year. She now has about 8600 on the clock and the original tires were getting pretty thin,( I know not a good idea to have ridden with 27 year old tires). Well today I went out and got new tires -Kendra challengers, and I was curious if anyone has any feedback on these such as how they wear and perform. hopefully they will outlast the original tires with 8600 miles they were really thin! Thanks and I have to say Im loving this bike and Site

I think it's odd to ask this type of question AFTER you've already purchased the tires.

But, I guess it can never hurt to ask any question.

I honestly don't mind the Kenda Challanger tires. They don't have the grip of some of the higher dollar tires. And they don't wear very well. (at least mine didn't. But they were on a much heavier cycle.) For the price you can get them for, they're not bad. You do sacrifice handling and wear for price.

I know I'll get heckled for this. But that's ok. I use Ching Shen tires now. And I like them very much. But like I said earlier, I had to sacrifice handling and wearing characteristics for price.

I have a friend who has them on his XS1100 and swears by them. So much so that he convinced me to try them on my wife's bike. (Her tires needed replacing, not mine - that's why we are trying them on her bike.) She has about 100 km on them; so far so good. ;o)

I won't heckle you. I'm pretty happy with my Chen-Shin tires.

I just bought Dunlop "E3" front and rear.
You get what you pay for! & you pay what you can afford!
I the long run if your going to put 5K or more a year you should be driving the bike to its full potential. And better tires will let you do that!

    I Agree with PGDBUD.
You get what you pay for!!
When you only have 2 tires....they better do the job and be darn right reliable.

Think how loosing a tire would look at say 65mph, not something I want to see, especially if I or a loved one is on that bike!

I absolutly refuse to cut corners on the oil I use and the same where tires are concerned.
I have Dunlop E3 front & rear now and when they wear out I am looking at Metzlers or Avon tires.

Good Luck with those discount tires

the KZ site says some good thing about them, i tend to agree
soft rubber, stick like glue in the dry, don't last long at all
handles good, doesn't follow rain groves, balanced easy
from how my 750 looks, about 6K miles is about it
