With my carb cleaning issues I decided to install some of the parts I've had in boxes that I bought last year and never got around to replacing. Starting with the throttle cable, but I'm not entirely sure how it attaches inside the throttle handle. I know I probably need to start by removing the little holder plate that is screwed into the handle, but of course that screw is already rusted and stripped. Should be fun to get out..

inside the throttle control, the cable end is stuck in a plastic disc which is a part of the throttle grip. should be a piece of cake once you get that screw out and split the control box. it's easier to do that end first, then attach the carb end.

So I'll have to split the control box then? Don't have to worry about attaching the carb end just yet, cause they aren't on the bike at the moment. Got a motion pro cable, any recommendations on lubing it? White lithium good enough?

I wouldn't use any lubricant for this purpose that has suspended particles in it, like lithium or graphite, because over time, the lubricant will dry a bit, leaving a residue in the cable.

I've been using gun oil with pretty good success. Also, some bike shops will carry a specialized cable lubricant, like Dri-Slide, but I've never tried it. I'd stay away from WD-40 for this purpose, as well.

Maybe some other folks will chime in with more suggestions.

Well..I happened to have some silicone lube so I used it. Hope there aren't any reasons for that to be bad. Lot's of corrosion inside that control housing. Cleaned that up a bit and threw some fresh paint on the housing. Just have to find a replacement screw somewhere now.

Take this for what its worth..

I have lubed 100's of cables with copper antisieze,it works!!!! pull cable out of sheath smear some copper antisieze on it then wipe off so only a very light coat left on cable, try it or dont try it but it works it doesnt dry out like a light lube and it doesnt gum up like grease.
