    Ok,
    1. What is the stock height of a 1982 Yamaha Maxim 750?
    2. where could I find some shocks that 4-8 inches higher than stock?

Thats pretty extreme. I dont think the shaft would handle that steep of an angle. Stock shocks are 12.5 eye to eye, you're looking for 16-20's? I'm not sure you'll find much.

Your best bet is probably Harley shocks, I've seen then on Ebay at 16". That might be a bit of a stretch for the shaft though, not sure myself.

I would say that raising the ride height that much and changing the rear-end geometry that much isn't a good idea.

You'll know after you try it out.

But, I don't want you to experiment with radical changes to the Geometry without knowing that the Handling Characteristics are going to be greatly affected.

    Possibly, dangerously so!
    Please be careful.

The 750 Seca has two different sizes holes in the shock bottoms between both sides because of the shaft drive. One side is bigger than the other. The good news is you can just change the rubber bushings in different shocks to make them fit.
