How does fuel get into the cylinders on the xj650 engine?

I know its an ignorant question but does the fuel squirt or dribble into all 4 cylinders from each carb butterly? Thanks

Your engine is an air pump that sucks in the air/fuel mixture.

    very basic answer.
Fuel and air mix and atomize
piston moves downward creating a vacuum, sucking that mixture through the carb(atomizing in the process)

To appreciate how well you can regulate the Various "Flows" of Fuel into the Cylinders ... you should Google a few Carb sites and read-up on Carb theroy.

Once you begin to understand the theroy ... you'll understand why the Bike runs so much better with clean carbs and vacuum levels well synchronized.

oh not the theory behind it, the actual process on this bike...like the fuel goes into the fuel rail, then goes into the float, etc

I took the carbs off my bike and didnt see any way for the fuel to get into the cylinders other than the butterfly on each carb

    is this correct?
    thanks

Exactly. The gas flows from the tank, through the fuel tubes, into the float bowls. Air passing through the carb body draws fuel up through the jets in the float bowl up into the airstream, where it evaporates. This mixture is then pulled into the cylinder and is burned. The butterfly helps to regulate the amount of air passing though the carb.
