Alright guys, I haven't been around on this board much since I bought my first XJ but you guys were always great help. You're the experts on what these things are worth so I thought I'd ask. What's the ball park range for a very nice running 82 XJ650 in the Midwest? Now I'll tell you details to let you decide where in that range my bike fits. I was going to put this up on eBay and let the market decide what it's worth (because everyone knows it only worth what someone will pay) but I have a friend who wants to buy and he seems like he will pay what I tell him it's worth. I don't want to give it away and don't want to rape him on it either.

It's and 82 XJ650 with about 12,500 miles on it. The frame is in very nice shape with no rust or chips, The tank and side covers were painted gloss black with no more emblems. All the chrome is nice. The seat has no rips or tears. Exhaust is very nice too with shiny chrome. All lights, relays, and turn signals work. I replaced the front end with the forks, brakes, and rotors off a 750 for the dual set up. I polished the fork lowers and rebuild the forks with new seals. I bought two new stainless steel braided lines from cyclebrakes.com and a new dual master cylinder. I put on Euro bars with about 2 1/2 inches of rise and new clutch, throttle, and choke cables from a 550 for the shorter length. The wheels are in perfect shape and tires are at 50%. I replaced the valve cover gasket when I got it. It has a new battery. The trip meter doesn't work because the knob broke. The aluminum on the engine is in good shape but the clear is chipping in some spots. I was going to polish but never got around to it. New grips, plugs, clutch perch and lever. New friction disks in the clutch and everything shifts and runs smooth. The pet c**k doesn't leak but doesn't flow like it should on prime. I will probably go through that before I sell it to him. Carbs are clean and work like they should. I'll post pictures tomorrow so you guys can give me a better idea! Sorry for the long post but I really do appreciate the help..

    Travis

    Edited: for spelling and clairity

Re: Guys! What's my XJ650 worth?

Just based on the above info, it should fetch $2500-3000 easily. Perhaps more, but I'm not an expert. I'll look for the pics tomorrow and see if that changes my mind. Other members may have a more informed opinion. Good luck.

Re: Guys! What's my XJ650 worth?

Jeff I appreciate the reply but I'm thinking I must have made it sound like a museum piece and that it is not. A very nice rider that I put a lot of time and money into, but it can't be worth that much. I'll get those pictures first thing in the morning because I know this thread is pretty much worthless without them. I really do appreciate your help though. I look forward to you opinion once the pictures are up.

I just remembered that I put tapered bearings in the stem and rebuilt the brakes. I'm sure I'll think of more as I'm taking pictures tomorrow.

I'm not sure about the prices of these bikes but I was told my XJ700 Maxim in excellent condition should bring $3000 but then other people on here say $1500 so I think its all a matter of personal opinion.

Had to wait for the snow we got last night to melt. My garage is a mess.

Its not really cleaned up yet either so I will clean it good before I sell it.

And I have the original tool kit for it also.

We had one here in Michigan sold on eBay last year. Low mileage, luggage, sissy bar. Pictures looked as good as yours (still had badges). I think it went for about $700. Definitely too low.

I'd guess 1,000 for good running. Another 300 for the perfect chrome. $1300.

Unfortunately the market for the XJs doesn't seem to be as robust as the other makes and models.

Travis, that bike would go for $1500-1800 out here in CA. It is in beautiful shape, hope you find a reason to hang on to it.

700!!! Yikes. I have more into it than that in new parts alone not including the cost of the bike!

Anyway, I guess my friend just bought an 800 Can-Am and now can't afford a bike for a while. So up on eBay it goes!

Robert, I wish I could, but I currently have 8 bikes and a few spare motors and couple of extra frames and piles of parts. I need to thin the herd.

    Thanks for the help guys.

I just checked ebay and there is one on there now, near me, and in good shape with low miles. His tires are about like mine. My bike has the dual brake swap up front though so that might help it fetch a premium over his. I guess I'll wait to see what his goes for then post mine.

if that's all original, with orignal tools.

i'd do 2500 to 3000 for it, maybe even more for a real collector.

    but it looks awesome!

Looks pretty clean to me already! I paid $2,000 for mine and yours looks better.I'd be suprised if it doesn't fetch at least $2K.

That would be nice.. that one I referred to on ebay got 2,000 even but mine has the dual brakes and stainless lines (smoke cover so it may be hard to tell in the pictures). I hope that's worth something to someone. I'll probably be posting it up on the bay soon, unless someone here wants to make an offer.

I just sold my 83 XJ900 to guy in California, who thought my 1,500 price was more than fair, and spent 700 shipping it to California. If I was young and single I'd ride it out there and fly back.
