Hey everyone. I replaced the stock handlebars on my XJ750 with some drag bars. Of course now the choke lever hits the tank when I turn to the left. I'm wondering if I could put some risers on it to elevate the bars a bit more above the tank. Does anyone have experience with this? Where can I buy them? Did you have to adjust the guage cluster to mount the risers? Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Muttly

I had a setup last year with drag bars and 6" dogbone risers. No problems but then again, I took my gauges off.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

Southpaw--can you tell me where you ordered your risers from?? Pictures would be great. My biggest concern is the gauge cluster getting in the way of the riser.

Muttly I ordered the risers from scootworks .com. I am 99% sure they will fit a xj. I dont belive the gages will be a problem because they rise 2" and pull back 1 3/4" There are really good pictures of them at the web site. Sorry I dont know how to attach links Expecting mine any day now As soon as I get them I will mock up the front end and get you pictures

Just about any 7/8" risers will work, if you have some type of short risers on there already. Most of them bolt thru the upper tree with bolts, then you mount your bars on top of them.
I didn't want to go out and find a pair, so I just cut the top off an old pair of risers I had from a Maxim and welded 4" pieces of tubing under them. Then to mount them on the upper tree, I welded 5/16" nuts inside the tubing to bolt them on. They ended up lworking perfect and are plenty strong (I tried to bend or break them to make sure they were strong enough) You will need 4"-6" depending how high you want your bars.

You can't see them very well on this photo (they're painted black) but you can see the bottom of them just below my cigarette lighter. You can just make out the washers where they are bolted to the upper tree. You can see how high they raised my bars too. PD
