this occurs only at full lock and only on the left side...

ive got close to 1/4" (6mm since were supposed to call these METRIC bikes now and not JAP bikes) gap on the right bar...

    im a bit confused...

The gap on mine is equal on both sides!
How are the front tank rubbers? both the same size, the mounting tab on the tank not bent causing the tank to sit crooked?
Do the handlebars feel/look okay, nothing bent?
Maybe someone didn't put in the washer under the lower bar mount on that one side?
Can't think of anything else at the moment.

I knew that the original owner had put my bike down on the left side, everything was fine but when I switched to a seca tank the bars hit turning them to the left. After looking, the stop on the left side had been bent/smashed in just a hair. Not even noticable at a glance, but enough to make the bars hit on a tighter fitting tank. Then after taking all the paint off of the new tank, I found some major body work that someone had done previously. With a combination of a bent stop and a little to much build in body work, I had a similar situation.

I'm going say that your handlebars and/or trees are bent. There should be no contact at all in either direction.

i inspected the stops and everything still has the factory powdercoat finish on it...

i got the tape out and with the bike on the center stand, the right 'cover attachment screw' on the bottom of the cover closest the triple tree is 40-1/8" (40.125" for the engineers here and 1.58m for the metric crowd) off the ground...

the left 'cover attachment screw' on the bottom of the cover closest to the triple tree is 39-7/8" (39.875" or 1.57m) off the ground...

i cant tell by riding it that theres a difference and with the cover off i dont see any evidence of the bar being bent from a tip over. any other theories as to why my clearances arent equal?

    thanks for the help
