Has anyone added those little LED under lights to their bike? I have an 82 XJ650 and I thought about getting a few blue ones. Not only for the looks but thought it would be safer and easier to see me at night. Not sure how difficult it is to splice in and what the draw on the battery would be. Anyone try this?

The Blue LEDs look nice to light up the engine compartment and looks cool on the chrome parts, BUT, they it is illegal to have any kind of blue light on when traveling on the road. Blue is for emergancy vehicles only!!
Most guys have them on their bikes for show when they are parked. You can only run amber or red when your on the road. Only amber facing forward and red facing toward the rear to be legal. Blue will get you pulled over as soon as they see you, and, they will see you!! PD

I never thought about them being illegal.... So much for being a bit more visible at night. Guess I'll have to stick with the brighter running lights as is.

Maybe install them for fun next fall just to see.

Eh your from texas the most light lenient state in the country...most state laws indicate that you may not have any blue light facing forward that is flashing or rotating. Blue neons under the bike should be okay.
Check your state statues for emergency lighting laws.

I'll check with the DMV and see what they say. If its borderline I'd probably still leave it out. I go through some small 1 cop towns and they just love to nail ya. Actually got pulled over once for 7 miles over the speed limit right at the sign that dropped from 55 to 50. They got nothin better to do.

I put some red ones on mine, on the engine and underneath, I just ran them from a hot wire tied to the ignition, to a hidden switch. that way I can shut them off if need be. they are 'illegal' here, but I've never ever had a problem. had blue ones on my old bike and never had a problem there either

They're impossible to see during the daytime but I added a small cluster of 6 blue ones pretty much right above the carbs under the tank. This gives a subtle blue light to the engine at night.

The only problem I have is that the cluster I used is cheap and has an intermittent so vibration occasionally shuts them off.
