Okay so I've taken these bad boys apart and cleaned every nook and crannie. I'm about to put them back together and I have a little copper (aluminum?) washer in the rebuild kit but I can't for the life of me figure out where the hell it goes.

    Any advice is good advice.

    Thanks.

The washer should go on the float valve seat.

Make sure you clean the tubes for the cold start system - they are located in the bowl. I found out the hard way by not cleaning them properly and my bike still has it's cold start problem.

Well, it depends what rebuild kit you are talking about.

There is small copper washer that goes UNDER the main fuel jet. These washers normally do NOT come with the carb rebuild kits.

The is a large copper washer (very skinny edge, the OD and ID are almost the same) that gos under the float valve needle seat. These washers normally DO come with the carb rebuild kits, and depending on the brand that you bought, it could be either aluminum, copper, or a hard fiber material.

And finally, many of the carb rebuild kits contain an aluminum "plug" (7mm diameter, about 1mm thick) that is meant to seal the idle mixture screw bore.

    How big is the Washer?
Did you remove the Emulsion Tubes and clean-out all the Air Holes?
Be sure each Main Fuel Jet has a washer holding down the Emulsion Tubes.

(Also make sure that nobody is messing with your head. We used to hide a new Float Pin and leave it under the rag on a guy's bench. If you think finding a washer is scary ... try finding a Float Pin!!!)

I just happen to have my carbs gutted and sitting in the kitchen.

    From left to right
    top:
    -idle mixture screw
    -idle mixture screw spring
    -idle mixture screw o-ring washer
    -idle mixture screw o-ring
    bottom:
    -float valve
    -float valve washer

Now for a question. I should have paid attention to this during teardown. Is this the proper order for the idle mixture screw parts, or does the washer go below the o-ring?

Crew----the way that you have it pictured is correct. The washer acts as the "seat" for the spring.
