Does anyone use a hotter plug than spec?

I just checked my bike and the plugs are 1 heat range hotter than the manual calls for.
is this a common practice for these bikes as they get older?

The plugs look good but are light grey/white as compared to light tan.

I've run NGK BP8ES with no issues and a good burn. I wouldn't feel comfortable going any higher. I ran them because they were all that was available where I got stuck. I went back to the 7's just as soon as the next change came up (wisely, I chose to save up for the new ones ahead of time).

Isn't an 8 cooler than a 7? I went to the NGK web site and the example they have is 2 hot 4 cold.

My manual calls for BPR8ES but there are BPR7ES in the bike.

I pulled mine out to be replaced. I checked the manual and it said to used BP7ES, the ones in the bike were a BP5.

I am buggered why a much hotter plug was being used. and I could only get a 6 at the time. Maybe I should find a 7

    Morning.

I had BP7ES's in my xj700 when I bought her but according to my manual they should be 8ES's. On the rare occassion the bloody bike runs
she seems happy enough with the plugs.
