Where does the grounding strap at the rear of the motor ground to. It's currently grounded to the motor, but can't figure where the other end goes to??? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Thanks Cheesy!

PS..... How much oil does my xj650 hold...... I'm reading 2.65 liters....but that seems a little low to me :?:

On my 550, the ground wire from the engine goes to the frame under the battery box. The bolt closest to the motor-side.

Not sure how much oil. I fill mine to the top of the window when bike is level.

    So on mine I have
    Negative Batt cable to motor.
Ground Cable from motor to frame.

2.65l is what the books say, I usually fill mine to the top of the sight glass and it takes the better part of 3 liters and thats without changing the middle gear drain plug oil.

Thanks for the reply....I'll take a look for a bolt on the frame. As for the oil. Ya, I generally top mine to the top of the window as well. This will be my first oil and filter with my new bike, so wasn't sure if I should grab 3 or 4 liters. I read 2.65L somewhere, but I thought it seemed like a rather low amount. Was just curious.

    Thanks, Cheesy!

Just fill-up the crankcase to the top of the sight glass. Run-it for five minutes. Let is sit ans see how much more you need to add to top it off.

Top it off to the top of the sight glass.
    Done.

Don't touch the Middle Gear Drain Plug.
You do so at GREAT Risk of breaking-off the Plug and causing yourself a nightmare.

Despite what ever you have read or what other Members will say about removing the Middle Gear Drain Plug ...
    Don't do it!
    Leave it alone.

There's less than a half-cup of Oil in there that "Changes itself" immediately upon starting an engine which has clean Oil in the Sump.

If you break the Middle Gear Drain Plug ... you will be in a Living Hell of having to take extraordinary measures ... up to and including pulling the engine to repair the damage.

The Middle Gear Drain Plug is NOT there as part of Routine Maintenance.
It's there to aid in not making a mess when you "Split Cases"

My OFFICIAL recommendation is to NOT Disturb the Middle Gear Drain Plug.
    You do so at ...

    YOUR OWN RISK!
