    My engine cranks over just fine but no spark from any plug.
    What should I check first? Can someone give me a troubleshooting flowchart? Also does the TCI unit control the advance (both vacuum and rpm)? I really don't know where to start.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Usually this is due to one of the safety switches being engaged. Check the kickstand switch and the clutch switch to see if they are sticking. Also make sure the engine kill switch is in the run position. TCI sets the advance and times the spark. Check it's ground wire which is on the bolt that holds the plastic board it is mounted on to the frame. Left side of board for my bike may be elsewhere for the 1100. There is also a ground wire at the coils that could be the trouble.

    That is because the 81 650 Max doesn't have one.
    Did you get it running?

    O.K. Here's the latest;

    I got the factory service manual and went through the troubleshooting up to the point about " testing the sidestand relay".
    I'm not sure what it looks like and the book is kinda vague about where it is. Some of the relay holders are missing and I have 2 relays just hanging by the wires and they look the same. there is a box next to the boost sensor on the frame ( right side the boost sensor is in the left) under the tank. Is this box the one I need to check?
    Everything so far has been within spec according to the manual.
    I hope this is it "cuz the book says if it's good the TCI unit is bad.
    Anyone got a spare they don't want? (yeah right)
    I would bypass it but it controls the timing.Does anyone know if I can retrofit the XS1100 mechanical timing controls?
    I would like to replace the Yamaha TCI box with 2 GM HEI modules ( cheap ,reliable ,and easy to get @ 3 PM on a sunday afternoon).

    Thanks in advance,
