I figured after lurking around here for a while, leaching wonderful bits of info off the various forums, I would sign up for an account and introduce myself. I am the proud owner of an 85 XJ700N that was purchased about a month and a half ago from a coworker. It's my 4th bike, previously having ridden an 81 XS650, 84 Honda Magna 750, and a 2001 Suzuki Katana (first and last sport bike).

I live in Northern Illinois (Dekalb) and was looking for an inexpensive, easy to maintain, COMFORTABLE bike (see no more sport bikes) and a coworker was selling his xj700 so I picked it up for $800 with new tires on it and had only sat for about 3 years. (New tires were this season)

RickCoMatic's carb cleaning guide is spot on when it comes to getting these things up and running. Nothing like tearing into your carbs to find out they aren't made of sludge and the pilot and main jets are reversed! I'm hoping to have the beast up and purring today or tomorrow. Colortune plug arrived Thursday and I'm dying to try it out. It's supposed to hit 60 here this week!

Welcome to the site. Your right, the carb cleaning guide is like a bible. I've got an 85 X and I'm always learning from this site.
    Take Care,
