    Hello All,
I have just purchased the mac 4 to 2 exhaust for my 81 Seca 750. The spacer rings are too long. Has anyone else had this problem? They are so long that the header bolts cannot be tightened. Ideas?
    Your vast wisdom is appreciated.

By spacer ring I assume you are talking about the exhaust port ring gaskets. You probably don't need them. Reason they are too long is that there is already one in the exhaust port and you are adding the new one on top of it. Carbon covers the seam between the ring and head after a while so you don't see it. Since they can usually be reused I would try mounting the header on the old ones.

Same problem last week with mine, I bought the same headers/exhaust. After screwing around with it for a little while, I took some sheetmetal sheers and cut 1/4 inch off the "flat end". The sheers kinda flattened the curve out, so I rebent them with a hammer and dolly. That was the only real problem I had with them. I had to tweak the mufflers to get past the center stand. but I'm real happy with them.

    Thanks BlueMaxim,
No its not the gaskets I am referring to. It is the spacers that the header nuts tighten against which push the pipes tight against the gaskets. My gaskets are in great shape actually.
Any thoughts? I have sent Mac an e-mail directly. I suspect I got the wrong parts package with the exhaust. If anyone has an alternative suggestion for getting the right size spacers, I would appreciate it.
    thanks,
    Jim

hi hblair, that sounds like the problem . I don' t have the cutting tools to do that, and i am concerned i might not make a flush cut if i did. thanks for the confirmation though....I knew i wasn't crazy.

It actually doesn't have to be as precise as you might think. Those sleeves roll/crush some as you tighten the collar down. If you have a grinder and a vice you could probably get away with taking an 1/8 inch or a little more off and it still work.

    Just a follow up....
I notified MAC of the issue.
I used a grinder to shave 3/16ths of an inch off the length of the clips, which was just enough to get the header bolts to tighten correctly. The rest of the exhaust system is top notch, and well made.
The sound is not what I expected, but growls nice and low. Thanks to everyone who tried to help me on this.
