Does anyone have one of these Traffic Light Changing Magnets on their bike? do they work. I know the theory and the claims, but i don't know anyone how has one.

I don't remember anyone saying that they did have one.

If you get one ... let us know how well it performs!

I've heard the pros and cons about the magnets working. Most have mixed feelings about them, so I don't use one. I found out however that by shutting the engine off and starting it up again will trigger the pickup so the light will change, which has worked for me a some occasions. I try to stop in the box that's marked on the pavement and the light usually changes. PD

It all depends on what setup they are running... the best answer I can give is:

    - make a right turn if it won't change for you

    - call the transportation department and report it (you aren't the only one fighting with it - they can adjust it)

    - if there is no traffic, run the light. If it goes to a ticket - fight it - you'll win most likely.

    - inch up and hope that a car will get close enough to you to trip it.

The magnets don't work... the theory is that the bike doesn't have enough magnetic field to trip the ground loop. The magnet idea is based on metal mass... which is why when you start the bike it can be enough to trigger it. I guess you might have equal luck with a emp ;)

The thing is to get a magnet big enough to always work... you may as well ride a harley with flat tires ;)

the best results come from stopping your bike as it crosses the perimeter of the loop. dont stop inside the loop because then your bike is inside the 'force field' if you will. the induction loop isnt being disrupted when you do that. by stopping on the ring, the magnetic field is disrupted at that point and thats what triggers the circuity...

i work on our parking lot gates a lot and we check the loop by laying a 1/4X4X12 piece of cold rolled steel across the corner of the loop. works every time (well except when the loop is disabled...

the bike definitely has enough mass, it just needs to interrupt the mag field for a long enough duration...

too bad they dont paint/mark the corners or the entire perimeter of the loop. As they resurface intersections the cut surface isnt visible any longer.

In any car or truck, I try to be on two lines - the side and either end depending on the traffic. Some loop'ed lights are still slow

Minnesota changed there law on this. If you come to a red light and no one else is next to you or behind you and no one is coming from the other way, you can proceed thru a red light after making a full stop first.

Way outside of local rush hours, like 9pm I've been stuck at a controlled on ramp, all by myself. tried both lanes. Sat on each loop, then over both, backed up, tried again and again. then three or four cars came down and they each got their green light. I sat through those last 3 or 4 reds, and finally just drove through.
They have cameras on the lines, but I'm sure they dont monitor 100%.
If I got a ticket, I would have been hollering for the tapes!

I was in a Jeep Cherokee, very close to stock height. Not something light or small or all plastic or anything odd.

I had the same thing happen about a week later, but I gave up and drove through quicker.

Simple law changes like that in MN might make one airing of the local news, but it is so easy for 99.999% of all the people, including the cops to NOT know about the change.

Most systems today don't use a strobe to trigger them. Nowadays, they use radio recievers and the like, so you won't be able to do that.

And besides the different possible triggers (IR, strobe, radio - with codes) a bit of googleing leads me to understand that they should turn all directions RED, not any direction GREEN.
