I'm dope and overcharged by battery this winter. I put the trickle charger on it and the next time I looked at it, it was boiling. A couple of the cells are low now. What should I top it up with? My dad says he uses distilled water, but his never last very long. anybody have knowledge about this?

Head down to your local Canadian tire and you'll be able to fiind large jugs of deionized water for a couple of bucks. I just picked up a jug from Part Source (not sure if you have any of these in Saskatoon) topped my battery up and it holds a charge no problem.

take a good look at the lead plates inside the battery -- if they're starting to get some buildup on them (sulfation), there's not much you can do to restore the battery to its original state. if the plates still look fairly clean, then distilled water should definitely help.

there are also some pulse chargers available online that are supposed to help remove the build-up, but I've never tried one.
