Ok, so I've had my bike all of 2 days and I seemed to have fried the ground wire. Everything seemed to be fine then yesterday I tried to start the bike and smoke was coming out from under the seat. I took the seat off and sure enough, one of the black wires coming from the negative post of the battery cable was melted. Now when I try to turn on the bike, I just get a click from the starter (I can still bump start it). The ground wire that runs to the block seems to be fine. The other wire that goes under the gas tank (which seems to go into the starting circuit relay) is the one that is ruined. Is there a way to test and make sure that this is my problem? If so, is replacing this a relatively easy fix?

I don't think thats a ground wire persay... I'm guessing thats the starter relay or something close.

Wow! Got a little toasty! If you can, replace the entire wire. If not, then replace what appears to have been damaged from the excessive heat. From the looks of it, I'd guess that you had a direct short to ground with an unfused hot wire. I'd be looking for a positive wire close to where that one was routed for damage, too. In addition, check the rest of your ground wires and make sure they're in good shape and have a good bond to the chassis and engine. The cause of this may also be that the entire electrical system was grounding through this tiny wire.

I'll try replacing the wire and see if that works. Thanks!
