Well, guys, I have been riding my '83 maxim for a while now and am really enjoying it. The engine is running really well and I am now looking at cosmetic issues.

I have here an emblem that I have never seen before and one that I can't find anything about on the internet. When I bought the bike two years ago this was on the sissy bar. I think that it is cool, but I am not sure if investing $150 in it is fiscally responsible or not.

I have been quoted $100 - $150 dollars to have it chromed like it originall was before I stripped all of the chrome due to a lot of pitting.

My question is, is it really worth $150 to chrome this piece? Have any of you ever seen anything like this?

Please let me know what you think. I was also thinking about just painting it.

    I'd say Yes - it's worth getting it re-chromed. Looks like it's a big-time collector's item - almost unheard of.

I did find this bit of info that mentions the marketing campaign:
    Don't Follow Anyone

If you do decide to go the powdercoating route let me know. I will do it for nothing. Just let me know.

Altus, thanks for the article. "Don't follow anyone" is a great retort for Honda's follow the leader.

Konartis, thank you for the offer to powder coat. I think that I am going to go the chroming route seeing as how this isn't something that I have ever seen but know that it was an actual slogan.

    Thanks guys for your help!

I've not had much experience with having parts chromed but to me $150 seems pricey. Since the embem is small and mailable (it does come off, right?) you might check onine for the best deal.
