bench-synch

I have read the post by gamuru on how to bench-synch your carbs. I am just reluctant to do it. I have been told not to touch them. But with the way it is running it needs it. I cant run colortune because the idle screw is in to far to get 1050 rpms screw it out any more and it dies so I guess it is my only option. On the color tune it stays blue no mater which way your adjust the air/mixture screws. Any tips on how not to mess the carbs when benchsynching?

your having some serious other problems if your idle screw is in that far and your mixture will never lean out to get a different flame... best solution is rip your carbs off the bike, clean em spotless, including/especially the enrichment circuit, bench sync all the butterfly valves, and set all the mixture screws to the 2.5 turns out. see where your at then and fine tune via the colortune. benchsyncing is extremely easy and is hard not to do right so i wouldn't worry about hurting your carbs. just take your time and be thorough.

 

Don't forget to check/adjust Float heights! this can also cause a non-responsive needle when peforming the colortune test.

 

Just to clarify, you do know which screws are which, right? If not, this may be why you're having trouble dialing them in.

 

Gamurus walk through worked great for me! He worded it simple enough so I could understand it, so everybody else is fine then to. I didn't think I would have an easy time of it but it really wasn't to bad. Now after figuring out my bike wasn't running good because my floats were off it really runs great. Cleaning the carbs isn't that tough, hardest part is getting them off! Just take off boots from the airbox to the carbs first then pull the carbs off and out the left side of the bike that really is the easiest way. Good luck!

Yeah I know which screws are what. I just wanted to maked sure before I started. Also what are the float heights suppost to be and where do you measure from?

 

If you go to my profile and go to the thread about me needing help and on the bottom of the first page is a pic that shows you what your float looks like set at the correct height. That is what I used to set my floats, then on the second page is another pic and that shows how to check your fuel level in the bowls and check your float heights. I used that to double check after setting my floats. Hope that helps!
