Just wondering if a set of carbs from a xj750 could be used on a 650? I know the internal hardware can be and also the boots. Just want to make sure before I try and buy a set. Thanks any answers are appreciated!

Yes. The pilot & main jets would have to be changed. If you are thinking about swapping your jets into the 750 carbs it will work if both are Hitachi. However your jets would have to be cleaned for the carbs to work. Most carb cleanings are due to clogged jets so you may not be making anything easier. However if you have damaged diaphraghms or other damage on your carbs then it could be cost effective.

Other than what you stated the bodies are the same then. Probley going overboard on it but I was looking for a set for spare parts and seen some 750 carbs and was just wondering if they would work.

btw how do I know if I have Hitachi or Mikuni? I looked in my service book and I see no references to the type.

Usualy have to go by model. The 550's have Mikuni's and the 650-750 have hitachi's. The 650 turbo has Mikuni as do the Maxim X bikes. The name of the carb should be stamped somewhere on the carb body.
