I believe I used a 17 or 19mm for the filter plug and for some odd reason I can't remember the size for the drain plug but it is in the same general area

I believe the oil drain is 19mm.

The stock filter bolt is really small, like 12mm. If you have an after market replacement bolt it may be 17mm.

These bolts are almost always over torqued. Correct torque for the oil drain is 31 ft-lb. Oil filter bolt is 11 ft-lb which isn't much more than snug.

If you over torque the filter bolt you risk damaging the 0-ring and creating a situation where it is very difficult to remove the bolt later.

The sizes may vary due to stock or after market, but one thing is for sure.....Don't strip the oil filter bolt. It took me hours and hours of pain staking attempts to remove. I ended up having to weld on another bolt head just to get some torque onto it. So take your time and make sure you have the exact fit. That will save you alot of headaches with that bolt head! Have fun with it, and keep us posted!
    Cheers Mac

When using sockets to remove stubborn fasteners always use 6 pint sockets.

previous owner shaved off my filter bolt... i took an angle grinder and cut a square around it and knocked the rest of the filter off with a hammer... I had already bought a spare.. so it was all good... probably the darkest oil I ever seen... it was in there for years

My PO welded a socket to the filter bolt! Now I don't have to look for that socket. All bolts should have 3/8 square drive heads.

6 pints and no riding! Youll be way over any sort of safe limit.
but yes, 6 point sockets are the way to go!
