Just wondering how much dough you all spent. I did exhaust and some signals but the rest was just elbow grease.

    130.00 I think for me.

I see a lot of nice bikes and a lot of talented wrench twisters out there!

I've spent over $4K NZD on the 900 and over $2.5K on the 650's

This XJ addiction is proving to be a little costly lol

    Brake lines: $100
    Carb parts: $60
    Brake pads: $45
    Battery: $35
    Brake lever: $20

I'd have to say I'm probably right near a grand. That's including all of the paint, solvents, parts, fluids, electrical crap, new lights, gauges, tires, seat etc... Also I've bought tools and crap but can't really put them on the bike expense alone. Others like a Colortune, I can. I have however recouped probably $300 of that back by selling off the stock parts I've removed/replaced with upgrades. I just wish I had been getting paid for all of the time I've got invested. Even at minimum wage, I'd probably be breaking even. I can't complain though, I'm very happy with the outcome and would/will do it again for sure.

I just spent a few bucks for oil/filter, plugs, etc. Had it out today. What a great day to own a bike! Maybe $50 total?

Of course, I only spent $750 on it originally and haven't put a dime into it since! It's near mint condition too.

I know, I'm one of those guys everyone hates! But someone has to have a success story, right?

Got the bike in Jan of this year for $400. Since I've done carbs, painting (in progress) tires (just ordered), various other look nice stuff. I'm in for a total of about $1100 so far.

Just so I don't skew the results of the poll. I haven't got a wife. If the money on this XJ isn't the reason the money on my other XJ (Jeep Cherokee) might be! I'm into that for about 3G's but it's on 33's :D

I bought another windshield off of Ebay this winter, and new foamie grips, but I was not in bike mode for the first winter in a long time, so my wallet was happier

I bought a gang of Red LED Strips and mounted them on the rear plastic cowl above the tail light.

Then, I added a "Back-Off" Brake Light Modulator to energize the LED Strips when the Brake Switches are closed.

The LED's flash 5-Times and then come-on steady when the switches are closed. It cycles immediately. If I release the Brake Lever the sequence starts new; flashing the LED's to augment my Rear Brake Light.

    The whole Package was about:

    $75.00 (or less)

People thought I was crazy to pay as much for my 650RJ as I did, but it was well worth it for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, I love these bikes, and finding one in near-perfect condition with only 8K on the clock was a rare opportunity, especially here in the U.S., where relatively few were sold.
Second, the advantage of buying a bike that is in excellent shape is that you save a ton of money on the back end, particularly when it's an extremely well-built and reliable machine to begin with. My bike has run perfectly since the day it was delivered two years ago, and other than a suspension upgrade, tires, and routine maintenance, I have spent virtually zip to keep it looking and running exactly the way it should..
That said, there is an exhaust issue that has come up this Spring (rust in the crossover unit) that is going to cost me a couple of bills to address properly, but overall, my Seca 650 has provided tremendous bang for the buck.
Money spent over the winter: 0
Money spent so far this Spring: Maybe $175.00 (new plugs, new battery, engine oil and filter, air cleaner element, fork and final-drive lubricant).

I probably spent more on paint then I did on parts. I figured I have over $2000 in accessories on my other bike, so this one is my cheap bike and I like making most of the stuff if I can or getting it from other bikes in salvage yards or Ebay. Cheap is good!

    Well I started with :
    1 slightly used 83 Maxim 400 = $ 900
    1 set of sprockets = 100
    1 set of brake pads= 45
    1 chain = 45
    1 oil filter and oil = 25
Several cans of primer and paint (had to redo it 3 times, DON'T ASK) 40
    some fuses = 5
SEVERAL cases of Nova Scotia's finest Brewskies = LOTS
All said and done I guess around the 1300 dollar mark!

Oh yeah, I never included the 430 dollars for my safety course, and not to mention the insurance..

Can't really commiserate with the rest of you. I spent a couple bucks on some fuel stabilizer and distilled water for the battery.

I did by some cable splicers but ended up not needing them, so they don't count. ;)

I bought my maxim x for 500. bought a full stock exhaust for it, wiring harness, air filter, battery, tires, guages, all new fluids, had the tins painted, stripped the entire bike and repainted the frame and everything else that needed it, polished a ton of stuff, mirrors, grips and who knows what else. I know for a fact that I have at least 1800 into it total, oh, and had the both seats and the backrest recovered. The bike will look as close to new as possible in just a few weeks.
