Would this be a good buy on Ebay? Also, will the 1980 XJ650 Maxim manual work for my 1982 XJ650 Maxim?

The manual will work. I don't know to much about the yics engines but I know that the manual will not cover anything pertaining to yics. I just got the same one for my 81 off eBay.

The 82-83 book is the 80-81 book with a supplement in the front.

    Things in the supplement:

Changed synchronization procedure for the addition of YICS.
    Automatic cam chain tensioner.
    Air assist forks.
Electrical changes to support side stand safety circuit.

Everything else is in the 80-81 book.

Bear in mind that that is JUST a parts manual, not the service manual or repair manual. I, personally, would stay away from "downloadable" items as well.

Hmmm... That's a "parts manual", which I don't think is really as helpful as a shop manual when it comes to maintenance and repairs. Also, I suspect that most of the information is covered in the XJCD along with a lot more useful stuff. And the XJCD is only $2 more.

Hey Chevy, you'd be better off with the XJCD, plain and simple. It has the factory manual AND the parts cross reference AND loads more. Get in touch with Dwayne!

Thanks for the advice, everybody. I have been doing a lot of searching on the net lately, surprised I haven't found this "XJCD" you speak of. Sounds interesting!

Robert, who is Dwayne and how can I get in touch with him (maybe his username)? Thanks!

There's info in the sticky topics at the top of this forum on how to order the CD. I haven't ordered it yet but will probably do so.

As Mikeg mentioned, look at the stickys on top of the page and follow the bouncing ball.
Nothing to it. Dwayne Verhey is 'da man. Look him up on our membership page.

WE should have a debate as to whether the CD Set or the Paper Manual is more valuable.

    In MY own Personal Opinion:

I'd take the Factory Book for what ever Model Bike I had and be very happy about it.

I have the need to have the book open and a wrench for a book mark.
    Someplace to set my coffee
Something that wont be ruined by a greasy fingerprint

Can you print pages off the CD?

I certainly can't criticize anything about the XJCD - it's an incredible resource for a tiny price, and even that goes to support a very good cause: this forum. There's simply no reason not to buy it.

But I personally would kinda like some way to get page info in non-.pdf (ie. text or word processing) format. Then I could cut/paste exactly what I need for a particular job, printing it as a handy sheet to stick on my bike or my forehead or wherever while working.

And for some members it might be nice to be able to increase text size large enough to read through glasses covered with sweat and WD-40 mist.

Yeah, I realize non-.pdf isn't a viable option. But hey, everybody has a right to dream!

Keep up the fine work, folks! And THANKS!
