i have a friend that has bins of speedometers for cheap... but he didnt have the gauges off of an 83 750 like i wanted so i was looking to know:

    1. are most speedometers calibrated mostly to tire size? (stock ones that is)
    2. can i use a speedometer off another make? (honda, kawasaki)
    3. is it possible to calibrate a stock speedometer? (mine is way off even w/o switchin it :p )

    on pins and needles

the answer is ... probably. speedo's are pretty generic. There's an easy way to test, just have someone drive beside you in a car and see if the speed matches, it's good. If it doesnt, just rip it off, throw it at them and say "NO, YOU"RE WRONG!!"

Ok i had some questions about this myself.

You can swap the speedometer over all day as long as you keep the stock gear unit on the front wheel. All jap spedos are 2245rpm = 60 mph.

But its the drive unit on the front wheel thats calibrated to what tire size you have.
