    Most of the pictures I see posted here appear to be Maxims. Just curious as to who rides what? Since I'm not familiar with all the XJ models I'll leave the other XJ's for you all to fill in, if you don't already see your catagory, if you would be so kind. I'll start;
    1981 XJ550RH Seca
    Next?

1982 XJ650RJ Seca. From what i have seen the XJ line goes from the XJ400 to the XJ1100 and possibly 1200? Most i have seen have been XJ650 or XJ750 models. Not too many Seca's though. I have seen 3 or 4 as opposed to 20 or 30 Maxims in my daily travels. cruzerjd

I ride the Purple '83 Max most of the time, now ... because she a real low miler and cannot possibly be more fine-tuned. The Purple Max is on the hairy edge and I love it.

Somehow ... on Friday, the Plate jumps-off the Purple Max and tries to get-away. Magic mice catch it before it escapes. The penalty for attempted escape is death. So ... they execute the plate by crucifying it on the rear of the Purple 900 with plastic tie wraps.

    Purple's purple ... right?

I had to put a rev-limiter on the 900. I got too heavy-wristed cranking that baby wide-open at inappropriate times ... if you know what I'm sayin'... like the time I passed all those cops chasin' a guy.

1983 XJ650R SECA (Cafe Racer Project).

I had only ever seen Maxim's before I bought 2 seca's (only have one now). Most people around here don't realize the potential these bikes have, and just let em die.

I guess I can't add bikes to the poll now. Would someone who perhaps has the XJCD please do another poll and add all the XJs in there? Thanks

Although my 400 is a Seca, it's not technically an XJ.

The Seca 400 and Maxim 400 prefix was XS, for some reason. Since the old SOHC Heritage 400 was also called an XS400, this creates all kinds of confusion when ordering parts!

The accurate model designations of the U.S. model Maxim and Seca 400s are:

    1982 Maxim 400 = XS400J
    1982 Seca 400 = XS400RJ
    1983 Maxim 400 = XS400K
    1983 Seca 400 = XS400RK

I think they were imported into Canada for at least one more year, so I assume those would be "L" and "RL" models.

The Maxim and Seca 400 are twins, but shared the DOHC and YICS of their larger brethren, and also had the distinction of being some of Yamaha's first single-shocked (monoshock) street bikes.

There was a 4-cyl. XJ400, but it was never imported into the US. I bet that was one fun little screamer!

    Regards,
    Herb

    Hi there!

I have a 1996 XJ400 (Diversion?) which I bought recently. So far I have replaced the rear tire (standard size Dunlop) and the handlebars (Renthal MX bars).

I can't seem to find much info about this bike (I suspect it was only sold in Japan) and I'm hoping that some of you guys could point me in the right direction for replacement parts (specifically piston rings, air-filter, chain & sprockets).

    Regards - Jay

Had an '81 XJ750RH Seca from about '01 - '05. Had a couple of bikes in between but kept missing the Seca. Just bought and waiting for delivery of an '83 XJ750 Seca tourer. Overall clean, with a repaint in '05, but needs a little help. Can't wait to dig in!
